a few weeks ago before panic buying and self-isolation swept the country I attended a talk with debut author Francine Toon, whose eerie novel ‘Pine‘ has quickly become one of the word-of-mouth successes of the year.
The evening consisted of readings from Francine herself and she elaborated on some of the influences for the story itself, location and basis for some of the main characters
Francine who currently is an editor herself spoke about the process of being published herself and the rollercoaster ride that can be as well as the process of writing pine and the 4-year journey to get to completion.
This was then followed by an audience Q&A which I have to say the staff member who was compering asked some really good well balanced and leading questions so the audience didn’t struggle to ask too many as most things were really well covered whilst managing to stay spoiler-free too.
After the Q&A Francine personally signed every copy for everybody who had a copy ready and was really chatty and friendly even to the cheeky sod who had an advance review copy with them.
There will also be a review to follow shortly about the book itself and without giving anything away all I will say at this point is this book really has reignited my love for Gothic Literature.
