My first gig of the year, It’s at a familiar setting The Firebug in Leicester and is being put on by Post 12 Promotions
Edit – It’s now the middle of February and I’m now just finishing the review, so what’s taking so long? Well unfortunately I had a flare up with a pre -existing condition which meant that I was so ill I ended up in Hospital. I’m glad to report that i’m OK now and want to thanks the bands for their patience and understanding.
The poster above lists four bands, unfortunately Devastator were unable to play due to illness which left the three in the blog title.
Up first were Derby’s Beyond Your Design who were kind enough to send an invite out to this event.
The three piece are made up of 2 guitarists and a drummer – you wot mate! no bassist? yes I may have had a few pints at this point of the evening but I do indeed speak the truth it’s something the band where asked a few times tonight and obviously this has been a asked frequently in the past too as they have a YouTube video covering this very topic. I must point out that I like the uniform approach of both guitarists using Solar Guitars
BYD were off to a great start until a technical hitch halted proceedings before the start of the 2nd track, this luckily was resolved fairly quickly and to the bands credit they took it all in their stride, interacted with the audience really well which even meant we were all briefly treated to Toto’s Africa until the band were ready to go again. Don’t just take my word for it you can witness it on the ban’s very own Vlog
The band have a great sound and I particularly enjoyed Robert’s vocal range – his clean vocals really reminded me of someone, hopefully I will figure out just who that is before I get to see them again.
The band signed with Dreamscope Records in 2019, and are currently working towards their debut EP ‘Together We Rise’ scheduled for release later this year which I am eagerly awaiting.
I would like to personally thank the band not only making the time to speak to me after the performance but for the generous invite to attend the show.
Up next were Liverpool’s Reaper Imagine a young NWOBHM band on speed then you are somewhere near, Fast,Heavy and Unrelenting from the outset. This was the first time I have managed to catch them live even though they have been together since 2011! this was a shock to me as everybody looks so young or I’m so bloody old, I even messaged another presenter from the station who was due to see them later in the month, he has seen them a few times has enjoyed the performances, I suppose the timeline makes sense as they were really focused, had amazing banter and even with a few technical hiccups still thundered through and gave a cracking performance
I picked up the bands debut album “Birth of Chaos” and am looking forward the new single “Sigil” out April 1st
Lastly were headliners Reawaken from Southampton – A change of pace from the previous two bands they very much reminded me of blend between Alter Bridge and Halestorm I especially enjoyed Miranda’s vocals.
The band have a new EP out in march entitled Restore which is immediately going into my gym playlist
