Cardiff celebrated the life & work of author Roald Dahl with it’s celebration City of the Unexpected

The Booksellers Association is set to launch a new book prize to coincide with the annual Books Are My Bag campaign and will be asking readers to vote for their favourite books of the year across five categories: fiction, non-fiction, biography,autobiography & children’s.

The shortlist will be revealed on Thursday 6th October ahead of national Bookshop Day on 8th October after which the public will be asked to vote in bookshops and online for their favourite books until 14th November, with the winners announced at a ceremony in London on 24th November.

 

Brookmyre

Chris Brookmyre has won the McIlvanney Prize, previously known as the Scottish Crime Book of the Year, presented at the Bloody Scotland festival in Stirling.

Brookmyre was given the award for his novel Black Widow  which deals with the subject of cyber-abuse. It beat off competition from three other novels: Splinter the Silence by Val McDermid The Jump by Doug Johnstone and Beloved Poison by E S Thomson.

The Scottish Crime Book of the Year was renamed the Mclvanney Prize this year in honour of Scottish writer William McIlvanney, who died in 2015. His brother Hugh McIlvanney presented the prize to Brookmyre.
