The Affair of the Poisons
Release Date: October 9th 2020
Having recently announced their signing to Peaceville blackened speed metal demon Hellripper serves up a slab of witchcraft and the occult with new album The Affair of the Poisons
The title track “The Affair of the Poisons” accelerates at an alarming rate into the sound Hellripper has become known for into first single release and the accompanying video “Specters of the “Blood Moon Sabbath” is wonderfully blasphemous and lyrically brilliant.
Second single and my personal favorite for amongst other things it’s Motorhead vibe “Vampires Grave” based on the tale of the “Gorbals Vampire” where over the course of a few nights in 1954, hundreds of young children descended upon the Glasgow Necropolis armed with stakes and crosses in search of a large, vampiric creature with blood-red eyes that they believed was responsible for killing and devouring kids with its iron fangs.”
“Beyond the Convent Walls” has an absolute mean riff at its core with solo’s attacking for every corner, Alongside the album, the merchandise for this release has nothing been short of amazing, and after a difficult choice I went for “Savage Blasphemy” as for me this track totally encapsulates everything Hellripper does.
Hellripper, aka James McBain, based in the Scottish Highlands, says of their forthcoming epic “‘The Affair of the Poisons’ contains the mixture of thrash/black/speed metal and punk that Hellripper has become known for, but this time I feel that the end result is more cohesive. Some of the tracks are more straightforward while others contain some twists and parts that are new to the Hellripper sound. As always, the whole writing and recording process was done at home by myself, with a few friends of mine contributing some additional vocals and lead guitar parts. The album was mixed by myself and was mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege who did an amazing job.
“Hexennacht” delivers a short sharp dose of thrash which is then followed by the equally speed demon “Blood Orgy of the She-Devils”
The albums final track “The Hanging Tree” is laden with layer upon layer of guitar pieces that also have some wonderful pace changes.
A wonderful manifestation of evil
