After a few delays Philly blackened sludge quintet WITCHING are ready to unleash their debut Vernal to a worldwide audience.
Opener “Witness” is an absolute shock to the senses it’s direct in it’s purposeful savagery, “Roses” starts of with slow meaningful drum parts, building into the chugging bass & guitar parts with gentler vocals to start before the harshness takes hold – Love, love, love this track.
“Lividity” is hands down the best track of the album for me – would love to see it get a single release as I think it would grab a lot of people’s attention *Spoilers* this tracks going in my next show…
“This Is What You Deserve” threw me a little as there were parts in it that reminded me of early hole, “The Pack” has an amazing riff and Jacqui Powell’s vocals, in particular, are so powerful.
The guitar intro of “False Martyr” really reminded me of Iron Maiden’s “Remember Tomorrow” but normal service shortly resumes. Title track “Vernal is straight up no nonsense fury at it is finest leaving final track “Eschaton” the daunting task of following such ferocity which is not only does but gets the controls and turns up the intensity level up to maximum setting.
I love a good debut – Vernal has so much intensity wrapped in inside that when it’s let loose it’s difficult not be anything but fully invested.
