Wood & Iron
Release Date 27th March
Vinterhjerte is the solo project of current Wrath Of Man & All Consumed Vocalist Michael Skeech who returns with 2nd album Wood & Iron.
“Blacken the Sun” opens quite tranquil before riffs fight their way through the woods into your ears, already at this point, I’m already invested in this album ” Ride to War” not only confirms this but has me thinking that this could easily be a bonus track on an early Amorphis album.
Title track “Wood and Iron” provides the fist in the air chant’s and can easily see this being a popular live track. “Hel’s Gate” has me wishing I had a huge goblet of mead by my side whilst I listen to the rest of the album, “Mimir’s Sight” is easily the fastest track of the album and has already been on repeat and deservedly so.
The second half of Wood & Iron starts off with “Journey to Valhalla” which once again is another strong track, “Chains” is one of the standout tracks for me as I love the various tempo changes and elements.
“War Mantra” is a track that I would’ve loved to be an instrumental, “Be My Axe” has possibly my favorite riff of the album and the more I listen to is becoming my favorite going on repeat, “Winter’s Bite” is, unfortunately, the last track and as good as it is I really want is wasn’t as I’m already ready wanting more, I mean I have a show to record ready for the weekend and what track do I pick! at this point, I might as called in the Wood & Iron show right?
Until yesterday this album wasn’t even on my radar, not only has is firmly cemented a place there but right is now is easily a contender to make my top list of 2020
